Flowering Pitchers

Although most folks grow our native pitcher plants for the foliage (pitchers), we think the flowers are pretty darn incredible.  Here are a couple of the earliest flowers species from the garden yesterday.

Sarracenia flava putting on an incredible show.

The lovely pink-flowered Sarracenia rosea stays close to the ground, but what a color.

  1. Do either of these do ok in less than full sun? At my new house, the only Sarrencia that seem to do ok is S. leuc. Tarnok

    • Officially, they need full sun. Unofficially, you often find them in the wild in the shade of tall pines. Light, filtered shade will work, but the plants will never be as vigorous or spectacular as they will be with more full sun.
