Garden Photography – Photo Capture and Processing Workshop

Anita and I are always looking for ways to improve our photography skills since capturing the essence of a garden in a photograph can be a challenge with all the variables that mix to create a satisfying image. Practice is one of the keys to improvement and so is learning techniques from garden photography professionals. We invite you to join us in October as we learn from one of our favorite professionals, Josh Taylor.

Here’s a photography tip Josh sent us and we want to share:

“The best time to photograph a garden is in the early morning or late afternoon and after a rain, in fog, or with snow. After a rainfall, garden foliage and flowers look fresh and vibrant and stonework glows. Avoid mid-day, when the sun is overhead. Overcast days work well too, but keep the bright, featureless sky out of the picture.”

If you’re looking to improve your skills in photography as we are, please join us Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 8am – 4pm, when Josh will be leading another great photography class at Plant Delights, Garden Photography – Photo Capture and Processing.

Josh, who is also a Certified Canon Camera instructor, will be showing us more helpful ways to work with your camera to achieve “wow” results.

Josh limits the class to 15 attendees so he can offer individual instruction, so please register early to ensure a spot!  You will learn how to get the best possible images from your camera and how to process your images in Lightroom with Photoshop/Photoshop Elements.

The fall landscape of the Juniper Level Botanic Garden at Plant Delights Nursery will be the setting for practicing your camera skills. The morning focus of this all-day workshop will be on learning about or getting reacquainted with your camera’s ISO settings, histogram, exposure compensation, shooting modes, bracketing, white balance, etc. You’ll spend 3 hours in the garden with your camera and the instructor.

The afternoon session will be devoted to post-processing with Lightroom using participants’ images for demonstrations. If you’re new to Lightroom, or moving from Aperture or iPhoto to Lightroom, this workshop will be most helpful in getting you up to speed. You will learn how to import and process your photos in Lightroom. This workshop is designed for increasing your photographic skills and the joy of using your camera.
